Who needs Obama’s birth certificate when you’re on the trail of ‘Ellie Light’?
Who is Ellie Light? You’ve got me.
The conspiracy hat on my head says that the prolific letter-to-the-editor writer and now prolific interview-giver is actually conservatism’s answer to the Yes Men. There’s something just a little too perfect about how this is all unrolling.
To start, the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s DC reporter takes note of a woman named ‘Ellie Light’ publishing the same letter to the editor in a mess of newspapers. And then suddenly, Patrick Frey or ‘Patterico,’ a blogger affiliated with Andrew Breitbart fan fiction-blog BigJournalism.com goes galloping along racking up more than 70 instances of newspapers and other media outlets publishing the same letter. Obviously an example of Obama and David Axelrod White House ‘astro-turfing!’ How convenient….*
Except not at all. Really, you’re arguing that they’re trying to move the electorate by publishing shoddily written letters to the editor in the nation’s flagging newspapers that no one reads anymore?
Sure, President Obama may be doing a poor job of governing our country in many ways, but you’ve got to give him more credit than to actually believe that by publishing the EXACT SAME letter in zillions of papers, he was going to change the debate. Breitbart himself in this doublespeak-filled interview with Fox Business News can’t even come right out and accuse the White House of being behind ‘Ellie Light.’
But hey, that doesn’t stop the geniuses in Patterico’s orbit from running away with it. Apparently, concluding that there is nothing to the rumors that Barack Obama is a secret Muslim Kenyan Indonesian robot Stalinist who was birthed by his grandmother, people need a new conspiracy to allege.
And just like Orly Taitz, Esq, DDS went to the wackiest lengths to prove that President Obama is an usurper, the ‘Ellie Light is a Special Assistant to the President’ people will go to hilarious lengths to prove their point. Note this blog post from Left Coast Rebel, who, like Ellie Light, claims to live in California!
As anyone that can do a quick Google will find, the name ‘Ellie’ comes from Greek name Helen lending it the meaning of “light”. So obviously we can then see that the name is most likely a pseudonym for something of meaning, something particular – light. Bungalow Bill has this insight:
El, a term used often in Chicago since they call their system of trains running to Chicago’s loop and throughout the city on multiple lines also means horizon–like horizon in Obama’s campaign symbol. We have two connections here to common themes with Obama.
Bungalow Bill also mentions that one must not forget Obama’s campaign symbol featuring an ‘O’ with a setting sun, etc, obviously the term ‘light’ and ‘Ellie Light’ come to my mind when thinking of the symbol:
OMG! You know what else is true? I had a friend in high school named Ellie! But ‘Ellie’ was short for ‘Eleanor’! Eleanor is the first name of Eleanor Roosevelt! Eleanor Roosevelt consented to the naming of Roosevelt University in downtown Chicago in honor of her husband!! Roosevelt University is blocks away from Obama Campaign Headquaters!!!! THEY LIVE!!!!!
Left Coast Rebel in this blog post also considers the possibility that rather than actually doing her job in the Obama National Security Council, former journalist and human rights specialist Samantha Power, married to Cass Sunstein, another Obama-hater pin cushion, is writing lots of letters to the editor. In the argument that Left Coast Rebel considers about why Samantha Power is risking her security clearance and trying to ruin the Obama administration, he quotes the following:
Proving how fascinating and hot this story is as well, I just got another note from a reader known as Piperbaye, he actually thinks that Ellie Light is a journalist, a certain Samantha Power. He notes as well that there is a Cass Sunstein connection to this Samantha Power and that Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals may be in play (the name Lucifer which Rules for Radicals was dedicated to means ‘bearer of light’.
OMG, you know who else actually quotes Saul Alinsky’s rules for radicals all the time and claims that he’s working to implement them? Andrew Breitbart-acolyte James O’Keefe. Is James O’Keefe ‘Ellie Light?’
And then there’s Dan Riehl, who offers “circumstantial evidence” — but evidence nonetheless — that ‘Ellie Light’ is linked to the White House:
If information I’ve been given is correct, there is circumstantial evidence linking now infamous letter writer Ellie Light to an international public relations firm involved with the White House in helping to promote health care reform.
Left Coast Rebel made me aware of a comment left on his blog by someone claiming to be Ellie Light. The comment was left by someone using the screen name Winston44. In searching out that name, I found a Twitter account under it that has barely been used.
The account has never tweeted and follows 18 individuals, with 9 following it. Given that we usually add people we know when we first open a Twitter account, I looked to see who the first individual was that Winston44 added. That would be Adam Segal.
Adam J. Segal, President, The 2050 Group, LLC + Named to PR Week’s 40 Under 40 for 2009.
His firm is The 2050 Group. It seems to be offline right now, though it was up last night and may be having tech issues. He maintained a personal blog on blogger here – ethnicmarketing. He seemed thrilled when Obama ran a spot in Spanish on Univision, not sure if he was involved with that.
What he is, or was involved with is the National Alliance for Hispanic Health Care. And this press release puts them in the White House, Google shows them to be supportive of Obama, particularly his health care reform agenda – and the release also establishes Segal as the media contact.
Let me see if I can break this down for you: A commenter’s screen name is the same as the name of an unused Twitter account. The Twitter account follows a guy who is affiliated with a PR company. The PR company once did work for a group that backed the White House on health care reform. Thus Ellie Light is David Axelrod, and it’s open season time to make homophobic jokes about transgendered people.
Joe McCarthy and Roy Cohn would be proud.
So who is Ellie Light? Ellie Light is Tea Party conservatism’s latest excuse to make shit up in the cause of creating a constant sense of crisis around the presidency of Barack Obama by alleging criminality on a scale not seen since Richard Nixon excused himself from the White House. Organized political advocacy becomes ‘astro-turfing’ and developing a tight message and sticking to it becomes ‘propaganda.’ Breitbart, Michelle Malkin, and their hangers on get pageviews. Sean Hannity gets viewers. Newspapers once again are demonstrated to not be very reliable. And, to close, as John Cook at Gawker puts a flourishing point on it:
There are two lessons to be learned here: 1) Don’t pay attention to the sort of people who write letters to USA Today, and 2) We are all Ellie Light.
* – Note, I’m not saying that Breitbart, O’Keefe, Patterico, Riehl, or Left Coast Rebel are behind ‘Ellie Light’. This is just satire of their approach to amassing evidence against the White House.

Michael Roston is a New York-based journalist who has written for The e HuffingtonPost.com. Gee, does that make you alittle suspicious about his objectivity?
If you are not suspicious of a man who hides his history I have a bridge in the desert I want to sell you.
If you are unwilling to call for an investigation of a man who attempts to sell you a bridge in the desert I have some beach front property in Florida at the intersection of I75 and Florida # 29 that I want you to buy.
If you place a down payment on a contract for the bridge in the desert and the beach front property in the swamp I would conclude that you voted for Obama
Do you really think AKA Obama would have won the election if all the things he is hiding were made known?
Do you really think AKA Obama will be able to finish his first term if all the things he is hiding are made known?
Obama “I have nothing to hide but I’m hiding it.
Sam, in spite of the fact that racist birthers like you seem to have so much time on your hands, you fail to ever come up with any facts that warrant any of your claims. But thanks for dropping by to bloviate.
By the way, I not only worked as a reporter for the Huffington Post, I was also an editor at the conservative New York Sun, where I was allowed to delete comments from birther-racists like you.
