Mary Cheney and Heather Poe welcome healthy baby daughter into the world
Various news outlets reported last night that there is a new member of the Cheney family, Sarah Lynne, born early Wednesday morning. Congratulations to the two lucky moms and her older brother Samuel – here’s ABC’s report:
Mary Cheney, former Vice President Dick Cheney’s lesbian daughter, had her second child this morning at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC.
Sarah Lynne Cheney was born at 8:17 a.m., weighing 6lbs., 14 oz. Her parents are Mary and her partner of 18 years, Heather Poe. The couple’s first child, Samuel David Cheney, was born in May 2007.
In early October, True/Slant’s Kate Klonick broke the news to the world that Cheney, the younger daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, was expecting her second baby. We wish many healthy and happy years to Cheney and Poe’s growing family.
Update: A cute remark from Roxanne Roberts and Amy Argetsinger at the Washington Post:
The birth of their son Samuel David Cheney in 2007 reignited the debate over gay marriage in the GOP (in both cases, Mary Cheney was the birth mom; they’ve never disclosed the sperm donor) — but second kids never get as much attention, do they?
