Jesus Christ rocketing into space means the Earth is screwed
I guess the intention of the cover of this week’s edition of the Economist is to imply that everything in Brazil is so great that even Jesus is flying high.
But taking a closer look, I feel more like what it really says is that Jesus is so fearful of the future of our planet that he’s taking flight and heading to another planet to find a new hilltop where followers can pray to him. It’s like he saw that trailer for Roland Emmerich’s 2012 where the ‘Christ the Redeemer’ statue looming over Rio de Janeiro crumbles off Corcovado mountain and he said, “oh, hell no, I am *not* going down like that.”

Maybe He is heading for a place with a more reliable power grid.
Zing!
Hm. Or maybe he’s expelling gas on people who mock his ministry….
Wow, thanks for the Christmas cheer! A merry one and a happy new year to you, too!
