Orlando office shooter Jason Rodriguez apprehended, 1 dead, 5 shot
Sounds like we’re having viral violence as someone shot up an office in Orlando, Florida:
Eight people have been shot at an office building in downtown Orlando. Four of the eight are in trauma condition. The building is called Legions Place. Interstate 4 is shutdown eastbound.
Officers with assault rifles are looking for a suspect with blue shirt and blue jeans. Many have their weapons pointed at the parking garage.
There is a heavy police presence near Lake Ivanhoe and traffic is being diverted.

Apparently the shooter is still on the loose. More to come.
Update: 12:49 pm – 2 dead according to local station WFTV. They add that victims were on the 8th and 10th floors of the building, which suggests that the shooter, who the Orlando Sentinel says worked in the building, had targets in mind as he went from floor to floor.
1:05 pm – Orlando PD via MSNBC press conference confirms one shooter at this time. It’s always a lone gunman, isn’t it? 2 dead included in the 8. One of the wounded had a cardiac condition and is in stable condition.
1:20 pm – Shooter identified as Jason Rodriguez on MSNBC porting in local TV news.
1:51 pm – WESH says 1 dead, 8 injured. WFTV says 1 dead, 5 wounded. Orlando Sentinel says 2 dead, 17 shot. I’m erring on the more pessimistic side if he really went to two different floors.
2:05 pm – On MSNBC, spokesman for Rodriguez’s former employer, an architectural engineering firm called Reynolds, Smith, and Hill, just said that he was terminated for performance issues, although they were making cutbacks at the same time. Termination in June 2007, which is a long time for this guy to be stewing. If anyone employed him in the interim, I’d lock down their offices right now, too. He also said that their offices are only on one floor.
2:23 pm – Mayor Buddy Dyer of Orlando says shooter Jason Rodriguez has been arrested, at his mother’s home by Orlando police adds city’s police chief. 5 shooting victims, 1 person with chest pains, 1 confirmed death. Hope the numbers stay that low.

How sad this is, I am not surprised by this at all. I am surprised that is is not happening much more frequently in a nation where 30 percent of homes contain a firearm and millions are out of work, about to get canned and are angry and terrified about the economy.

Yeah right… Obama’s going to take away our guns… so let’s all load up on assault rifles and ammo… then when we get canned and are feeling totally worthless with no prospects to hope for, well, then at least we’ll have the means to go out in a blaze of Glory!

Well Andy, I owe you an apology. I’m sorry. I jumped to a conclusion and didn’t understand you were writing your remark about the President taking away all of our guns sardonically. I shouldn’t have leaped without reading more carefully. There’s a lot of (not too bright) people on the Internet who will tell you the President secretly wants to take their guns away the first chance they get, and proffer the worst kind of conspiracy theory evidence to make that case. I’m sorry to lump you in with people whose intellect you don’t share. Thanks for being a reader of our network.
