Does Sarah Silverman regret helping elect President Obama?
Mediaite directed me to this video Sarah Silverman screened on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday:
Loyal readers of Newsbroke will know that I have a certain passionate and romantic love for Sarah Silverman that involves her giving birth to many of my babies, growing old with me, and holding my hand as I pass away tragically of natural causes related to old age as all of our dozens of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gather around us.
And this got me wondering: does Sarah regret helping Barack Obama get elected president?
Sarah got involved with the Jewish Council for Education and Research in 2008 to encourage young Jewish people to get on the horn to Bubbe and Zadie and persuade them to vote for Barack Obama in the battleground state of Florida. The resulting video ‘The Great Schlep,’ was terrific and funny and spread viraly on the Internet, Jew to Jew, like a secret handshake. Obama won Florida, and while no one can say for certain that Sarah’s effort contributed to more old Jews voting for Obama, it was one of the more memorable get out the vote projects in a campaign season that was filled with innovative campaign organizing.
But perhaps like many liberals and progressives, Sarah is disenchanted with the President and some of the moderating come downs that result from actually being elected. And perhaps her way of slyly making sure no one ever asks her to endorse a candidate again is by making this video?
I mean, surely, no one is seriously going to get involved in an online effort to sell the Vatican to end world hunger. And I’m surprised that the Catholic League’s Bill Donohue hasn’t already issued a statement laying into Silverman for making dick jokes at Catholicism’s expense. That Sarah’s effort seems bound mainly to motivate ire from Catholics and jokes from hipsters suggests to me that she knows that no one will ever ask her to make a PSA for any cause that requires a certain amount of discretion ever again. And I have to wonder if Sarah really is doing this because she doesn’t want people asking her to ‘give something back’ anymore.
Or maybe I’m wrong: maybe some organization devoted to vanquishing hunger really does hope to motivate hipsters to donate money for their cause. If so, they shouldn’t expect to be invited to next year’s UN Food and Agricultural Organization meeting.

Well I don’t know how for the life of me you make the leap from watching this vid that Sarah regrets her decision to endorse Obama. Did you see the actual show Michael? She seemed pretty content with her choice to back Obama.
