The suicide bombing of the Khomeini shrine has all the signs of a false flag attack
An Iranian propaganda organ, PressTV, reports a bombing at Ayatollah Khomeini’s shrine today:
Two people have been killed and eight others have been injured in a suicide bombing attack on the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in southern Tehran.
The suicide bomber was also killed in the blast that rocked the northern wing of the mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, on Saturday, Tabnak reported.
An Al Jazeera analyst suggests that a Mujahedeen-e-Khalq bomber carried out the attack. That would be convenient because MEK has been constructed as a stand-in for the Bush administration in Iran since America invaded Iraq. Instead of shipping MEK, a group that’s on the American list of foreign terrorist organizations, off to Iran for trial, the Bush administration allowed the Iranian-origin but anti-Islamic Republic group to continue to stay in Iraq, where Saddam Hussein had long ago given the group safe haven.
So, If Iranian officials are suggesting that MEK was involved, it’s a useful rumor to spread because it’s their way of saying, “America and its proxies bombed Iran.”
Also worth pointing out that earlier in the week, the Iranian outlet I quote above reported that Iranian authorities had foiled a bomb plot on election day. The officials claimed the the group attempting the bombing had confessed to working for Israel.
Bottom line: Iranian authorities are pressing the notion that the protesters are in league with nefarious foreign forces to harm the Islamic Republic. If you wanted to do a false flag attack, reporting via propaganda organs that a key symbol of Iran’s revolution has been bombed is a good way to harm the image of the protesters you’re fighting against.

I read this morning that most of the Iranian fire was directed at the British, do you think that is changing and some blame will be placed on Obama? Or will they point to Bush?

We will have to see how this plays out. I don’t find it totally implausible that the U.S. is doing some meddling in Iran. That’s just how the CIA does.
I find it interesting that the U.S. has its own code terrorist organization. I want one of those too. Whenever a certain gang in my neighborhood does something, I want everyone to glare at me.
I think I saw something on CNN last night reporting that British Intelligence is even doubting that shrine was attacked.
Michael,
Well, Iran has gone from “What protesters?” to claiming they are all the current regime’s supporters. Sure, I’m poking fun a little as we don’t live in a country where we have to lie, we have freedom of assembly, freedom of speech and, depending on where you are at the moment, you can bring a handgun with your concealed weapon permit.
I live in San Francisco, a city that will protest anything. Depending on what the protest is, it either starts at City Hall or ends up there. That’s two or three really long city blocks from my apartment. It’s mainly younger voters. I’m 46-years-old and I know what a waste of time these events can be. But, for a younger voter, they are having an experience that I am incapable of having. I’m too pragmatic. Since I have lived here, which will be 14 years on September 20, 2009, I don’t believe the “let’s protest everything” mentality had begun yet. It was born out of the Iraqi War. Living somewhere that prides itself as the most politically correct city in the nation is difficult. I’ll find a segue into that later this column or perhaps another column.
Your Bottom Line…Do you think it will work? I haven’t read you enough yet to pick up on humor, what is real and still perversely funny and what is a sobering thought. Since Russia is supposedly involved, I am surprised they have learned nothing over the years. They really need to put out some kind of statement. In the war of propaganda, one might look culpable to issue no statement when they have veto power at the UN and may have been directly involved.
I’m sorry, I really wasted a lot of space, so, I did something I never do…I edited myself. Your Bottom Line sounds like a sobering thought. If I am wrong, I can live with that.
