Rush Limbaugh playing race card on First Dog Bo

Forget health care, bank bailouts, and deficits. The new battlelines in American politics are being drawn, and they can be sketched out in this manner: Rush Limbaugh, his cat Pumpkin (or Punkin’) and the Humane Society versus President Obama, his elitist purebred non-resuce dog Bo, and illegal dog fighters like Michael Vick.

According to today’s Politico Playbook from Mike Allen, “AlexConant.com scoops that Rush Limbaugh has recorded PSAs for the Humane Society (really) because Bo’s not a shelter dog.”

Indeed, it’s true. You can have a listen to Rush Limbaugh’s bloviations about his sweet cat Pumpkin and how he’d personally punish anyone who injured her here.

He talks about “people like Michael Vick” (black people), “this culture” (black people), and “street toughs” (black people).

There’s also a version of the PSA that’s targeted at Christian conservatives.

I predict that Rush and other dittohead bloggers and pundits will spend the next few days going on and on about Bo, finding subtle ways to say that Obama doesn’t care about animal welfare because he’s from the same street culture that produced Michael Vick. It’ll be one of the most disgusting displays of gutter politics we’ve ever seen, and that’s saying a lot.

You think I exaggerate, but here’s one nutter arguing that President Obama probably dog-napped the little Portuguese Water Dog. Let the political silly season continue….

    About Me

I'm waiting for the day when I can get the news directly into my brain. Until then, I'll be lit up by the electric glow of screens, chasing the latest breaking like the hopeless news junkie I am. Ever since the Encyclopaedia Britannica tried to launch a web portal ten years ago, I've seen many ends of the online news spectrum, from my time as a political news reporter for both RawStory.com and the Huffington Post to the better part of a year I spent running the late New York Sun's website. There have been a lot of other stops in between. Now I am your homepage editorial overlord. But I haven't let it go to my head. Yet.
