Rage Gets Christmas Single No. 1 Spot

Well, the battle between a kinda old political song and a pretty hollow Miley Cyrus cover has been decided.

Rage Against The Machine’s 1992 single “Killing in the Name” sold more than 500,000 copies in the last week, more than enough to beat Joe McElderry’s “The Climb” in the race to be this year’s Christmas single. NME has more:

Speaking upon hearing the news to Radio 1’s Scott Mills, Rage frontman Zack De La Rocha said: “We’re great, we’re very very ecstatic and excited about the song reaching the Number One spot and I just want to say we want to thank everyone for participating in this incredible, organic grass roots campaign.

“It’s more about the spontaneous action taken by young people in the UK to topple this very sterile pop monopoly. When young people decide to take action they can make what’s seemingly impossible, possible.”

And now, the world is completely changed. Up is down! Down is up! Left is right! A wildly popular ’90s alt-rock band is… still wildly popular!

Well, here’s to those folks in the U.K. with a keen-enough sense of humor. May they enjoy being forced to replace all their Christmas carols with chants of “now you do what they told ya’” all season long.
