Jon Stewart, Rod Blagojevich, and hitting “rock bottom”

Posted on Deep Dish earlier this week, the video of Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s Elvis impersonation has inspired the Daily Show’s Jon Stewart to create a Brand New Segment (!) The title? “Rod Blagojevich’s Quest for Rock Bottom.”  Rock on, Stewart.

Posted here is the Aug. 13 episode including the new segment (sorry, couldn’t find just the clip). The fun starts at the 10:30 mark. However,  if you’re bored at work and tiling the screen so your boss can’t see willing to take the scenic route, strap in for a scathing calling-out of Glenn Beck on healthcare reform (I believe the phrase “talking out of his ass” makes an appearance) and Dick Cheney’s Face-Shootin’ Jamboree.

What do you think? Has Blagojevich hit “rock bottom?” If not, does anyone have any creative ideas that he might explore to achieve that goal? Personally, I’m hoping that he’s actually going on the Daily Show in September, which is mentioned at the end of the segment. If so, I can’t decide whether I want to see Stewart will rip into him Jim Cramer-style or sit stunned with befuddled laughter as Blago apes The King for a national audience. Bottom line: fireworks either way. Can’t wait!

  1. collapse expand

Saying that a politician, or even an ex politician, has reached rock bottom is somewhat misleading because there truly is no “bottom” with regard to how low a politician can sink. No matter how sickened you may be about a headline describing a political misdeed today, you can rest assured that some politician somewhere will sink even lower in the future. Never underestimate their avarice and you will never be disappointed.

BTW: anyone given consideration to Palin/Sanford in 2012? Republican dream team?

    About Me

When I moved from my hometown of Monument, Colo. to study journalism at Loyola University Chicago, I found myself forsaking my Rockies for a city in which political scandal is about as routine as eating half-foot-thick pizza with sauce on the top. Weird. Three years later, I'm finishing my degree and addicted to unearthing how political wheeling and dealings at the top impact the daily lives of me and my fellow Chicagoans.

When I'm not writing about Chicago politics for True/Slant, you can find me at Loyola's award-winning student newspaper, The Phoenix, where I am Editor-in-Chief. I have also held internships with the Chicago Sun-Times and MediaBurn.org, and worked as an intern for a Chicago Tribune writer.

But I'm still not entirely used to the pizza.
