The Nobel Peace Prize and the Next American Civil War
Everyone was surprised that President Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize. Some were surprised that he had been nominated two weeks into his Presidency. As Lech Welesa, the leader of Poland’s Solidarity Movement and a former recipient himself, pithily put it: “Too soon.” Others were surprised that someone who was increasing the war in Afghanistan won a prize for peace (War = Peace?). As Michael Moore said in his open letter to President Obama:
You have to end our involvement in Afghanistan now. If you don’t, you’ll have no choice but to return the prize to Oslo.
But the people who were not surprised, the people who believe that everything that is happening in the world and in the US is a “threat to this country’s greatness” are worth taking a look at. Not because their world view is surprising, but just because the US has anything but peace on its hands. In fact the US is as close to a Civil War as it has been for a long time. A fact that the lovely Norwegians could not possibly understand nor could they imagine how awarding Obama the Nobel Peace Prize would only further fuel the separation of America into “us” and “them.”
Case in point: Glen Beck.
These progressives are extraordinarily powerful. And this campaign of Barack Obama, this global campaign for Barack Obama, is done by global interests that have extraordinary power. They’re very well connected.
The Nobel Peace Prize should be turned down by Barack Obama and given — you ready for this? Oh, this one’s gonna make headlines — should be given to the Tea Party goers and the 9-12 Project.
Case in point: Rush Limbaugh
This fully exposes the illusion that is Barack Obama. And with this ‘award’ the elites of the world are urging Obama, THE MAN OF PEACE, to not do the surge in Afghanistan, not take action against Iran and its nuclear program and to basically continue his intentions to emasculate the United States. They love a weakened, neutered U.S, and this is their way of promoting that concept.
Case in point: Big Government Readers
I am utterly disgusted.Barack Obama has not accomplished anything. There has been a lot of fine words about a “nuclear-free” future and groveling and scraping to our countries enemies and mealy-mouthed apologizing. In fact, in the interest of “peace,” he has weakened this country’s defense (i.e., defense spending cuts; scrapping the European component of the missile defense shield; banning “harsh” interrogation). Evidently, what the world wants is a weaker United States – because they assume it is a bigger piece of the pie for them.Further… Obama was nominated two weeks after he was put in office – when he seriously had done nothing. I’ve never heard of anybody being nominated for what it was hoped they would do. WTF?
Wow.
Reagan helped free millions of people – no Nobel peace prize
Carter – helped usher in the era of Islamic fundamentalism – awarded the peace prize
Gore – made millions fooling stupid people – awarded the peace prize
0bama- who knows, but it won’t be good – awarded the peace prizeThe world is crazy, and the US is catching up.

What people sitting in the peaceful country of Norway could not possibly know is how America is not just divided into Red and Blue states, but that the Reds have gone so far to the right, are so infused with fundamentalist religious beliefs of the Anti-Christ (Obama) and the Second Coming, so infused with a hatred of all and everything that is different from them, so infused with a sense of LOST POWER (white power, American power, patriarchal power) that they see everything as a sign that “It’s time to stand up and fight.”
What people sitting in the peaceful country of Norway could not possibly understand is that these people are armed to the teeth, so when they do decide to stand up and fight, it’s not going to be a political debate.
What people sitting in the peaceful country of Norway could not possibly understand is that giving Obama the Peace Prize just helps set the stage for the next American Civil War.

Interesting and disturbing angle Laurie.
I vacillate back and forth between two positions: 1) The US is on the precipice of internal conflict of the beck/limbaugh dittoheads and the rest of the country, and 2) thinking the age of civil war for a country like ours is past, as the masses are too appeased with breads/circuses and distracted, anxious and bloated to ever ‘rise up’ and present a threat to the stability of the Nation.
The former concern is for reasons included in your piece; as well as the fact that i’ll talk to anyone, and a common phrase i’ve heard touted among the more ardent right wingers is, “Oh, Rush is too liberal for me” (pairs with a wink and a chest puff of confederate pride.) The latter opinion is from, well, hell just turn on prime time TV and watch any ‘reality’ show (if you can stomach it.)
I too hope that “bread and circuses” are too distracting for actual Civil War. On the other hand, what happens when the Bread and Circuses of Beck et al. are exactly what’s creating the Civil War in the first place????
In response to another comment. See in context »Laurie,
It’s a bit like judging the speed of a moving car from another moving car. You view the conservative population of this country as moving to the far right. Actually you have it backwards. The progressive movement has gone from covert to overt in their mission to turn this free market republic into some form of Marxist/socialist country. The people you deride have been forced into action by the oligarch Congress, and Marxist President. And yes, he is a Marxist. He’s made many Marxist statements (wealth redistribution, unions, health care), as well as taken over “the means of production.”
So whereas you see these people as the fringe, know that they are merely the more vocal of a large class of people in this country. It’s socialists “coming out of the closet” finally which threw gas on the fire.
Again, as I have repeatedly suggested to you. It would benefit you to expose yourself to more than the leftist elite faculty of Middlebury College, and its tiny town tucked away in Vermont. If you are capable of opening your mind, you may find some of your most dearly held beliefs are wrong.
