‘Going Rogue’ Cover Released
First, an apology: I planned to stop at two Sarah Palin posts this week. Unfortunately, Harper, the publisher of Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue, decided this should be all-Sarah-all-week, and I have bitten. Yesterday, the company released the book’s cover image:

My first four thoughts, in no particular order:
—This cover was clearly designed to appeal to the Christian Right. With the clouds—some dark and ominous—behind her head, all that’s missing is a halo. It’s just a matter of time before someone Photoshops one in and starts circulating the image.
—Skin, glasses, and hair aside, there are really only three colors in this image: Red, white, and blue … and a tiny bit of green off in the distance. It’s quite a contrast to Obama’s brown- and cream-hued memoir, Dreams From My Father, and reminiscent of Palin’s attempt to position herself as a true American compared to Obama last fall.
—2012. 2012. 2012. Sure, Palin probably played only a minor role (if any) in selecting the cover image, but this cover certainly suggests she’s positioning herself for a 2012 run. See my previous thought, as well as the flag pin and the book’s subtitle, “An American Life.” Also, maybe it’s a stretch, but it really feels like she’s looking off in the distance toward the White House in this image.
—With the exception of the words themselves, nothing about this cover says, “Going Rogue.”

I think it’s anagram time!

American Finale
Regarding the cover, I would have liked to see “more words” and “less picture”; something that gave a bit more of an indication as to the contents.
That said, our family will most likely obtain a copy of that book – either in hardcopy or digital format. Here in the midwest Palin energized many women that previously were politically inactive.
Thanks, Bob. I agree “An American Life” is a pretty nondescript subtitle — according to Gawker, that same subtitle has been used on books about and by plenty of other political figures and prominent Americans. Maybe it’s an effort to place Palin in that same category, or maybe it’s just easier to use more of a blanket statement for a memoir that likely covers a lot of territory. Kind of non-committal like politicians.

I hadn’t really thought about the outfit before, but a track suit is definitely an unusual choice. (She’s always “running.”) It also plays down the infamously glamourous Neiman-Marcus shopping binges, I suppose.
