This is how we’re saving money?

The first wave of Illinois prisoners eligible for early release will be let out today as part of a cost-cutting move, St. Louis Public Radio station KWNU is reporting this morning.

By releasing inmates from prison, Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration hopes to save millions of dollars and usher in other alternatives to incarceration. But the early releases are opposed by police, prosecutors and some crime victims.
