It has been suggested that there is link between ‘morning-sickness’ and the mother-to-be’s psychological state. HowStuffWorks.com has an article about Psychological Changes during Pregnancy. They say ‘a high level of stress in your life or negative feelings about being pregnant may contribute to some of the nausea that occurs in the first trimester.’ I’ve seen studies that suggest this as well. So I would say it’s no wonder that the relaxing effects of Marijuana would have an effect on pregnancy nausea. However, I would be more inclined to try aromatherapy, yoga, meditation, hypnosis, even psychotherapy, before ingesting/smoking any mind-altering substance. Go for the root of the problem rather than the quick fix.

I haven’t been pregnant in roughly 50 years, but remembrance of nausea is vivid among things past. If this isn’t another good reason for legalizing medicinal marijuana I don’t know what is.

April: Based on the reactions I’ve gotten from this article, you aren’t alone! And a few people I spoke to DID smoke pot – and tell me that “the kids seem normal” (hah!).

This study doesn’t get specific on whether the cannabis was smoked or ingested some other way. But THC exposure to the baby is the obvious implication, regardless….maybe it makes them more creative…

I totally weighed the pros and cons of smoking weed during my last, insanely miserable pregnancy. Unfortunately the only info I could find was antidotal and divided sharply along the lines of “hippie” and “physician.”
