See Ya’ Later, Sarah
In an incredibly unexpected move, Sarah Palin announced today that she would be resigning as the governor of Alaska. According to sources at the event, Palin gave little or no explanation for her actions but said, ”at this time, faith and family come ahead of everything else.”
There are lots of theories floating around about the reasons behind the sudden resignation. “By leaving office early, Ms. Palin will be able to travel around the country more freely and not have to deal with the constraints of being a governor,” said the New York Times, gently hinting at the conflict between the governor’s star power and her duties.
Palin has also been dogged by legal issues and ethics inquiries since her run as vice-President. “Palin spoke directly to those inquiries,” said Politco. “Saying she wouldn’t stand by as taxpayer money was spent to investigate her.”
So while it could be that Palin was just looking to avoid pesky ethics question as she worked on her book or started her own TV show, I’d venture a guess that there’s something with a little more substance going on behind the scenes.
My first guess is Palin is planning on making a run at her long-time Republican rival Lisa Murkowski’s seaton the U.S. Senate, which is up in 2010. Murkowski and Palin have a storied past, starting when Palin beat Lisa’s father, Frank Murkowski, for the GOP nomination for governor when he was running as the incumbent.
But my second guess, and what is probably more likely, is Palin is just the latest in a long, long line of corrupt Alaskan politicians. She’s defending herself on far too much for far too long to get away from it all clean. And it could be that she simply wanted to disappear before charges got filed, or an FBI agent came to her door.

She seemed very nervous…I truly hope she does not run for anything ever…a career at Fox looks good she and the other nutbags there are a perfect match.
That second option sounds like wild conjecture, but i like it!
You caught me. I have nothing for Sarah Palin but wild conjecture.
In response to another comment. See in context »Palin always appeared to me to be an unstable person both as governor and VP candidate. At times I questioned her stability as a mother, shamelessly using her children as campaign props. I think she’s one of those characters who will continue to be a jack-in-the-box pop-up. The far right will adore her when she does. The left should ignore her, but there is the entertainment factor that keeps us watching.
She kinda bothers me, doncha know, between her cutesy-ignorant accent, and her focus on using talking points to side-step anything of substance. I’m saying she will start her own FOX show, and position herself as the more attractive, stupid, counter-part to Rachel Maddow. Conservative women will love it. Millions, a book, and then gone.
