Protesting With Severed Cow Heads (Warning: Graphic Images)

I happened upon the following pictures disturbing and intriguing all at the same time. Apparently, this was a protest last week by Hungarian farmers who think that the European Union’s low dairy prices and cheap imports are crippling their livelihood.

Here’s the question: Most of the planet are meat eaters, so hundreds of thousands of cows are slaughtered every single day, but does anybody else find it disturbing to think of cows as so disposable?

Additional question: In 50 years will we still have local farmers or will all the corporations have taken over by then?

  1. collapse expand

    Hello Justin,

    1) No, I do not find it the least bit disturbing. Cows are disposable, that is what they were bred for, to die and be eaten. Monty Python devoted to time on their show to sheep. In one of the skits a sheep hit upon the idea of escape after they realize that their entire existence consists of standing around for a few months and then getting eaten. Harold, that most dangerous things, a clever sheep, decides that sheep must learn to fly to avoid this fate. This is why the sheep are perched in trees. Harold is training the sheep to act like birds. When the shepherd is queried by a passer-by why does he not just get rid of Harold the reply is “Because of the enormous commercial possibilities if he succeeds”. When cows learn to fly, they will no longer be so disposable.

    2) Probably.
