Fox News Continues To Excuse Glenn Beck’s Inexcusable Behavior

Did you see Beck’s tirade yesterday?

Well, this time it was so outrageous that Fox actually did put out a statement…

During Fox & Friends this morning, Glenn Beck expressed a personal opinion which represented his own views, not those of the Fox News Channel. And as with all commentators in the cable news arena, he is given the freedom to express his opinions.

What utter and complete nonsense.

It’s one thing to give political commentators the freedom to express opinions. It’s another thing to allow them to spread lies.

And let’s not beat around the bush here…Beck is a shameless liar. Because there’s no way that he thinks that Obama has a “deep-seated hatred” for white people. This is for ratings and it’s an absolutely disgusting display.

And just in case you forgot…take a trip down the crazy memory lane that is Beck circa 2009…

If you fall for any of Beck’s shenanigans, you’re a fool. Plain and simple.

Here’s the question: Why do people fall for this nonsense?

Might want to take a look at the ratings, Justin. It’s hilarious that bloggers still don’t understand/accept the fact that FOX News destroys all competitors. They did it before the election and they’re doing it now (it will return to a landslide as Obama popularity wanes).

I’d say FOX News has its fingers on the pulse of America (I know, its a scary thought to me too), but you have to suck up and join reality.

And Olbermann is just as egregious, irresponsible, and arrogant in most of his tirade, feigning a belief in any subject that will grant him another viewer.

Is T/S’ Comment policy to not accept comments?

    @kill

T/S’s policy is for each person to moderate their own comments. I had wi-fi problems yesterday so I didn’t get to it.

As far as ratings, that’s kind of the point of the whole post…but how far will it go. Is Fox trading short term gains for long term hurt? I think possibly, especially as they try to bring more people in who aren’t unreasonable.

Also, Olbermann is a blowhard, there’s no doubt about it. You won’t get any disagreements from me on that. But as irresponsible as Beck? Hardly. Beck’s bread and butter is conspiracy theories and rabble rousing. Olbermann’s is hyperbole. Big difference there.

“It’s one thing to give political commentators the freedom to express opinions. It’s another thing to allow them to spread lies.”

There is a serious underlying problem with this statement. To begin, it supports the right to free speech that political commentators have. Then, however, it retracts that right in the second portion. The purpose of free speech is to secure the right of an individual to speak freely, regardless of whether other individuals consider their statements “lies.” Even if a person does lie, free speech supports an individual’s right to lie to the listening party.

It’s just the nature of the particular right. It is not wrong to let these people proclaim their beliefs/messages, but if you disagree, you must speak in a more convincing manner than the liar himself can speak.

Wrong Jonny. Free speech doesn’t support lying, especially in the case of libel, slander and yelling “Fire!” in a crowded room when there isn’t one. A lot of people have that misconception, and I wish folks knew their 1st Amendment rights a bit better.

But let’s put that aside for a moment because what I was talking about was Fox News and its ethics…not whether or not what Beck was doing is legal. Basically, Fox is giving Beck a platform to just flat out lie and it’s really sad. True, it’s good for ratings, but what about the national discourse? Again, it’s a sad state of affairs and Fox is leading the way to the gutter.
