Dems Divided On Second Stimulus
I talked about this recently when Biden admitted that there might be need for a second stimulus package at some point, but that the administration wanted to see how the first round would suss out.
Still, looks like Dems need to get their stories straight because they aren’t saying the same things.
First, Harry Reid…
“To me, there’s no showing that a second stimulus is needed,” Reid said. Asked if the first stimulus needs to be retooled, Reid said, “We’re doing fine” with the first stimulus package, a $787 billion bill passed in January.
Now, Steny Hoyer…
“I think we need to be open to whether we need additional action,” Hoyer said.
But Hoyer cautioned it was too early to tell whether the last stimulus program was enough to fully jolt the nation’s staggering economy back to life.
There’s certainly enough daylight between those two statements to make Dems concerned. So the party’s leaders would do well to get on the same page and speak with one voice on this issue if they want to make sure people start spending again. Because if consumers hear conflicting accounts of how things are going, they might save more and stay home…and that’ll draw this recession out further.
Here’s the question: Do we need a second stimulus?
