South Carolina GOP Tells Mark Sanford To Scram
After the latest news about more sexual impropriety, Mark Sanford is all but done.
On Wednesday afternoon, Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn McConnell became the latest — and one of the most significant — members of the S.C. legislature to say the governor should consider stepping down after admitting to an affair. [...]
Ten Republican state senators have asked the governor to step down, while others say they are leaning in that direction. The Associated Press is reporting that 14 Republican state senators are supporting a resignation, which is a majority of the 27 GOP members.
Previously, I shared some news about how Sanford had likened himself to King David. But let’s make a distinction here. Sanford got caught because he was careless and was forced to admit what was going on. And only with additional pressure did he admit to these other indiscretions. King David confessed with no external pressure other than his own guilt and remorse. Perhaps this is why the GOPers in S.C. have had just about enough of Sanford?
Here’s the question: Will Sanford resign or will be be forced out?
