Looking Down In a Vertical Town
A series in the New York Times’ Lens blog caught my eye recently. It focuses — plainly, cleverly, even somewhat lovingly — on New York City streets. Not so much Life On the Streets! More Stuff On the Streets.
As the photographer notes in her first post of the series “when observed closely, the pounded pavement of this city holds as much interest as the peaks of skyscrapers.” I agree.
So this series has inspired me to share images of a street subject I’ve been photographing for a long time: gloves. The gloves in question, I should note, are not used to keep hands warm in winter. These are used for, well, any number of purposes. They have mysterious biographies. And I suppose that’s what compels me to notice — and shoot.
