Ridiculous McNair coverage exemplified by Deadspin
This weekend, former NFL MVP Steve McNair was shot to death. Since his body was found with his mistress Saleh Kazemi, speculation has been rampant and everyone from mainstream media to bloggers have weighed in on this tragic incident. Although most of their insane hearsay and wild theories make TMZ look like Edward R. Murrow. However, no media outlet has whiffed worse in their McNair coverage than Deadspin:
But she does bring up an interesting point (a little early and a little too publicly, mind you) about how pro athletes will react to McNair’s death when it comes to their own extra-marital affairs. I don’t know if this will be a deterrent, but it might make some players take a closer look at their goomah’s mental stability to make sure the potential for gun-play is minimal.

Really Deadspin? You have played a major role in establishing sports blogs as a legitimate part of emerging media and I respect you for your contribution. However, this kind of post only reinforces the blogger stereotypes perpetuated by the mainstream media that hinder the progress. With this kind of reporting, you take another step in solidifying your transition into a shining example of what you initially set out to mock: clueless, vapid mainstream journalists.
Now, Kissing Suzy Kolber is a blog that does it right. If you’re going to make a mockery of what is almost certainly a murder, fully commit:

Well folks, no one covers a major event as poorly as we at KSK do. If you’re going to read speculation about McNair that is clearly false, you deserve only the DUMBEST of theories and predictions. Here now, is some of our very finest non-detective work on the matter.
Please click to enjoy their amazing satire. My favorite:
-Saleh Kazemi? Sounds like a Persian name to me. Could this be part of a far and wide ranging crackdown on potential Iranian dissidents in the wake of that country’s rigged elections?
