A Sporting Precedent for Obama
One of the attributes that endeared Barack Obama to voters, especially the young males, was his knowledgeable and passionate love of sports. It certainly made him seem like a regular guy because he shared an interest with a majority of men in the country. But it appears his fandom may now come at price. His surprise appearances at Washington DC sporting events is starting to creep toward an expectation:
Still, pressure is mounting on President Obama — who already has developed something of a reputation as Sports Fan in Chief — to attend Tuesday’s game against the New York Rangers at the Verizon Center — about eight blocks from the White House.
I’m not exactly sure how much pressure there actually is on Obama, but it’s an intriguing point. Beyond the obvious security risk, which is significant, he also just created another potential “story” for his media team to deal with. While it seems unlikely his support base would erode to any degree over this, politicians have lost votes over less. Plus he limited his options by sitting in the crowd at a Wizard’s game, as opposed to the luxury box. He gained some major street cred, but now Obama’s painted himself into a corner. Not only must he attend events, he can’t do so in a luxury box.
So, do you think Obama attends the game?

Oh man, I didn’t even think about that (though, who the hell does though in the first place?), but the last thing we need is Obama at that game.
It’s bad enough they have home ice advantage, but a sitting President in the crowd – even King Henrik wouldn’t be able to stand a chance.

Fella’s got a good short game, but the long term strategy still has some kinks in it.
