Just when you think all you’ll ever read about in the jockosphere is steroids, dog fighting, and the latest sexual abuse charges, along comes a link to a story about athletes trying to save the world. The non-profit organization, WePlayGreen, was founded by Cincinnati outfielder Chris Dickerson and Cleveland pitcher Jack Cassell, and is bringing professional athletes together to raise awareness of the environmental crisis.
Professional athletes—and baseball players specifically—tend to be hardline conservatives, so finding more than 30 pros, including stars like Philadelphia’s Chase Utley and Boston’s Jacoby Ellsbury, using their platform to create awareness for this vital issue brings us that much closer to the day when everyone is on board with saving the planet. Before it is too late.
