Sarah Palin used to cross border to Canada for health care, like a rogue Communist

strange-brewAh, what the hell.  I haven’t written about performance artist Sarah Palin in a while, so here’s this new thing she about said about how fantastic socialized medicine is, because mavericks make words work for them and not the other way around.

Here’s the quote from the Calgary Herald [via Steve Bennen]:

“My first five years of life we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right there by Whitehorse. Believe it or not — this was in the ’60s — we used to hustle on over the border for health care that we would receive in Whitehorse. I remember my brother, he burned his ankle in some little kid accident thing and my parents had to put him on a train and rush him over to Whitehorse and I think, isn’t that kind of ironic now. Zooming over the border, getting health care from Canada.”

I think for it to be truly ironic a “death panel” would’ve had to have saved her life, but why split hairs?  This is the second mainstream GOP figure I’ve written about today who either doesn’t understand how health care works, has deliberately lied to the public, or both.  When can we all stop pretending that the Republicans are a functioning political party deserving of respect?

    Sarah, Sarah, Sarah.

In 2007, then-Gov Palin visited her old hometown of Skagway and told a completely different version of the story.

In the Skagway version, her brother still burns himself, but the parents bundle him up and they take the ferry down from Skagway to Juneau to seek medical help.

The only way these two version are not incompatible is if her brother had a nasty habit of setting himself on fire.
