Get Well Soon, Coach Calhoun
ESPN announced tonight that Connecticut men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun will take a leave of absence due to undisclosed medical issues.
The issues, whatever they may be, are not related to Calhoun’s previous issues. Hey, the dude has only beaten cancer three times, so my money’s on Coach.
Calhoun is one of the best — one of the best coaches and one of the best recruiters. I think his accomplishments speak for themselves: more than 800 wins, Six Big East Championships, Five trips to the Elite Eight, One trip to the Final Four and Two NCAA Championships. Wow. Just Wow.
That would be enough. More than. But the guy is also one of the most entertaining coaches I’ve ever seen. He’s already in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
He should be in the Hall of Fame of Press Conferences.
