I repeat, there is NO major market for fat
The gruesome news award today goes to this NPR story:
Police say a gang in the Peruvian jungle has been killing people and draining fat from the corpses to sell on the black market for use in cosmetics, although medical experts say they doubt a major market for fat exists.
Police dubbed the gang the “Pishtacos” after a Peruvian myth dating to pre-Columbian times of men who killed to extract human fat, quartering their victims with machetes.
Now, while I admire innovative efforts to make money in a troubled economy, I have to wonder if they’re really going about this the right way. There are plenty of New York City women, for instance, who’d take you up on a bargain lipo—providing you don’t kill them.
How long til Law and Order does a “ripped from the headlines” on this one?

Ewww. Seems a little urban legendish to me but hey, it’s in print and on the internet. Ha.
Being a missing overweight person in Peru is even worse than being a missing pet in this lady’s neighborhood: http://www.truecrimereport.com/2009/11/sharon_mcdonough_accused_of_to.php
Yes, it’s on the Internet, so it MUST be true! That story is horrible, Rob! Why do people who do bad things to animals seem so much more horrible than gangs who kill people for their fat?

I think the fat has finally hit the pan:

It was a good story, made me smile, ultimately glad it’s probably not true. Always enjoy your posts.
