Prominent MILF offers to help in kidnapping case

When 79-year-old priest Michael Sinot was abducted from his home in Pagadian City in the Philippines’ Zamboanga del Sur province, it wasn’t unrealistic to point fingers at the MILFs. After all, members of the Al Qaeda-linked Moro Islamic Liberation Front, aka MILF, have been responsible for some nasty shit in the area.

But a prominent MILF leader has denied involvement. In a statement reprinted by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, MILF commander Kumander Bravo (real name: Abdurahman Macapaar) said, “We do not have anything to do with the kidnapping of the priest, we are ready to help look for ways that the priests be released soonest.”

Which is awfully nice, don’t you think?

By all accounts, Sinot is a good man. For more than four decades, Father Mick, as he’s known locally, has fought to help disabled children, be they Christian or Muslim. In 2005, he suffered a heart attack and underwent a quadruple bypass. Weakened from that ordeal, he needs regular medical care.

The military suspects ransom as the motive. They’re also pointing to a smaller Al Qaeda-linked rebel group, Abu Sayyaf. Fans of National Geographic Channel’s outstanding Locked Up Abroad series will recognize Abu Sayyaf from not one, but two episodes. One clip and one full episode are below.
