Not just another Cronenberg movie: Twin pediatricians on trial for boy-touching

Dead ringer for Dr. Scott

Good lord, this is a creepy story. It’s alleged that doctors Mark and R. Scott Blankenburg, twin pediatricians working in Butler County, Ohio, have been boning their underage male patients for decades. Well, not boning per se — but still doing bad things. According to the Washington Post, Dr. Mark fondled and blew several patients, and then attempted to buy their silence. According to Assistant Prosecutor Lance Salyers, “Dr. Mark Blankenburg, for 20 or 30 years now, has been driven by a specific sexual appetite for teenage boys.”

A grand jury indicted the 53-year-olds in December; their formal charges were announced on Monday. They include child sex, compelling prostitution and laundering money. Their trials are set for Spring, 2010.

In the meantime, let’s start casting the movie. It’s a shame that Jeremy Irons has already played evil twin doctors (in David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers) — he’s perfect for the role. I nominate Jeremy Davies, assuming the movie opens early in the doctors’ careers.
