Queens and fairies descend on Disney World to Christian group’s dismay
The first Gay Day at Disney was held in 1991 when a man named Doug Swallow (yeah) invited several groups of gay friends to join him at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando. It quickly became a tradition, and the annual gathering — held on the first Saturday in June — now attracts more queers than a Kylie Minogue concert. The event isn’t without controversy. Somewhere along the way, a promoter named Johnny Chisholm (yeah) created One Mighty Weekend, a straight-up club Bacchanalia timed to coincide with Gay Day. Shrieks of “sell-out!” are heard every spring as the big weekend approaches.

Annoying, yes. But dangerous? C'mon.
Other groups are made uncomfortable by this annual gathering of evil queens and fairies. At least one Christian group was upset this past weekend when an estimated 150,000 homos painted the town pink. The Florida Family Association called for a boycott against Disney for allowing the “offensive event” to occur during daytime hours. You know, when “normal” children are in the park.
A Christian pro-family group has accused the Disney Corporation of giving preferential treatment to gay and lesbian groups. The 19th Annual “Gay Days” celebration held last weekend at Disney World in Orlando has sparked the accusation against the entertainment conglomerate.
David Caton of the Florida Family Association had called for a weekend boycott against Disney urging families to stay away from Disney parks during the “Gay Day” celebration.
“We would encourage people to send an email to customer service at the Disney Company and encourage them to require this event to be held at night, like all other specialty events, when it would not be impacting tens of thousands of children,” said Caton.
According to Caton, Disney requires other specialty events, such as “Grad Night” and “Night of Joy” – a contemporary Christian music festival – to be held after normal operating hours.
The problem is, Disney doesn’t officially condone Gay Days — so it’s not therefore required to apply standard practices to the gathering. Gay Days brings about $100 million into the park and greater local economy.
The Florida Family Association, incidentally, is also urging a boycott of Blowflex. The home-gym manufacturer is the “leading advertiser on explicit homosexual show that degrades Christians.”
It all sounds so 1990s.

Don’t these pro-family groups have better things to do with their time? Board game night? Prayer circle?
And seriously, I think they should be more worried about their kids catching mites from touching dirty Mickey costumes than catching gay from brushing Doug Swallow’s arm.
