The tale of two manholes
When I first saw the headlines of the texting teen who fell into a manhole I had the same reaction as most, “haha what a stupid person, not looking where they are walking, oh, how society is declining.” After a little bit of rational thought however I’ve decided that this is not the teens fault it is the crew who left the manhole uncovered. After watching this report you will probably agree.
The video shows the skinny sidewalk and the flush manhole, without a cone there any of us could have fell in. Most media appear to be mocking the texting teen, but I’m going to give the teen a pass here, that could have been me in 1995 flipping the tape on my walkman.
According to the report, the street workers left the manhole unattended because they were on their way to get cones to put around the manhole. Two things gentlemen; Get the cones before uncovering the manhole, if this is impossible you only need one person to get cones, the rest can wait at the work site.
We do like the idea of an idiotic manhole story so, we found this drunk guy with a beer belly.

Was that news segment from the Daily Show or the Onion? Where does one learn to talk like that reporter?
I see a trend being born here and I happily look forward to a long run of stories about people falling into manholes.

I know why he fell in. How could you see the ground with a belly like that? That’s why I’m making the Belly Mirror. For pregnant or fat people, who miss the joy of staring at their feet at parties, or realizing that their socks are mismatched.
That interviewing reporter is awesome. A big, open, man hole. He is making it sound dirty.
