Birther Soldier Refusing to Deploy

orlyHave you heard of these “birthers,” they are Americans who refuse to believe that Barack Obama is American. Their main argument is that there is no proof that he was born in the United States, and claim that his birth certificate is fake, regardless of what the Hawaiian health director says.

U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook has decided that WND.com is the most trusted source for news, so he and his lawyer Orly Taitz have filed a lawsuit so the Major does not have to go to war and fight in Afghanistan because that would be,”in violation of international law by engaging in military actions outside the United States under this President’s command

I served as a commissioned officer during the Vietnam conflict…I was an enlisted volunteer who went to OCS…My experience then showed me regular army officers tended to be Republican conservatives…

My instinct sees this as a coward’s way out. Oh, I can’t put myself in danger because I am a coward but I will justify my cowardly actions.

My friends and I opposed the war but were not cowards. My best friend died doing his duy…he opposed the war. This major is a coward.

When will it ever end? Why don’t the “real Americans” secede? Oh they tried that in the 19th century and lost.

This is bullshit. How can someone who took an oath to serve and protect (or is that Batman?) decide he doesn’t want to anymore, because he THINKS that the President is not an American? I would think someone would have checked the birth certificate, at some point along the line. Kelly, you nailed it, this is total cowardice. Plus, this major is now setting a precedent for other soldiers. If he were PFC, this wouldn’t be as big. Did he have similar considerations for international law when we first invaded Iraq? How about with torture and detainee policies? I doubt it. Just another example of conservative hypocrisy.

Well, the guy’s ploy worked. The Ledger/Enquirer is reporting that the Army has told him he will not have to deploy. (http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/news/story/777472.html)

The thing that really caught my eye in the story is that apparently, the guy had VOLUNTEERED for the deployment in May. So, in May, he was OK deploying under Obama’s orders, but now he’s not? Something’s not smelling right here.

    About Me

I was born and raised in Peterborough Ontario, from there I've moved to London, Banff, Victoria and finally Qualicum Beach - I am confident I have found the best place in Canada to settle. I don't consider myself a writer, I only play one on the Internet - I started blogging years ago for my now-defunct website ThrowawayyourTV.com - Since then I've blogged for AOL and worked as a manager/trainer at Mahalo.com assisting writers in learning the ropes of Internet Research and web-writing. Away from the computer I work as a pay-on-call Firefighter here in town.
