Rep. Blames Recession on Bad Moral Behaviour. Not Bankers
Sally Kern has been spending her time representing her constituents by drafting up the “Oklahoma Citizens Morality Proclamation” which starts off like this…
We the People of Oklahoma, Invoking the guidance of Almighty God, in order to
secure and perpetuate the blessing of Liberty…
Yes, it goes on like that, you can read the whole shabang here (PDF), but let me offer this highlight.
WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national
moral crisis; and
WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion,
pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and
many other forms of debauchery; and
WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking
the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and
WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused
to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of
Prayer; and
WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States
disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to
an immoral behavior;
Make note, I am a religious person and perhaps bias against this type of dialogue in politics. I have no problems with religious people, however I believe Idiocracy will arrive fastest when the craziest religious people enter the world of politics and get voted in. Sally Kern, certainly fits that description.

I am not an atheist but I am not Religious either. I do believe in God and I thank Him everyday for the blessings in my life. I try to live my life as I think He would want me to.
However, I also believe in Science. I believe homosexuality is a genetic trait and not an immoral decision. I have a nephew who is gay, as well as many gay friends. I knew my nephew was gay when he was a child. When he was 14 yrs old, he finally told his mother. I wasn’t shocked when they told me about it and they asked me why. I told them that it was obvious to me when he was about 6 or 7 years old. Scientists believe they are getting close to finding the gene that determines sexual orientation, I believe they will. The Religious Right will, of course, disagree. They also disagreed with Galileo’s discovery that the Sun was the center of our galaxy and not the Earth, as the Church had claimed for thousands of years. They also believed societal immorality caused the Black Plague in Europe, now we know the fleas from infected rats caused it. The Religious Right disagrees with Science all the time and end up having to eat crow! Mrs. Kern is the perfect example of ignorance combined with Religious Extremism! Should we prepare ourselves for another Salem Witch Trial?

Shorty, you nailed it man. It is hard to figure out if Religious Extremism or ignorance comes first, but they certainly go hand in hand. The people who are a little more concerned with the loving and moderate aspects of their faith are the ones I respect, and I want to be like.
“WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States
