Updated: Texan Cop Tasers Great-Grandmother

Update June 9: Six days later it looks like the cops have released video of the Tasering. The police force and it appears even the media seem to be siding with the officer on this one. We still believe a full grown officer should be able to restrain a 72 year old lady without using a weapon, but that’s just us.

Original June 3: Tasers probably provide the greatest Idiocracy stories, however anybody getting just Tasered isn’t going to be enough to make the Index. The Taser story must be an extraordinarily mind-blowing Taser incident, like when Michigan cops Tasered a stuffed panther or when Florida correctional workers Tasered dozens of children.

So today I bring you Kathryn Winkfein the 72 year old great-grandmother who refused to sign a traffic ticket. Apparently, there is no way to subdue a 72 year old great-grandmother without using a Taser. Did I mention this was in Texas, ah yes, I did, right there in the headline. Video time.

According to Precinct 3 Constable Richard McCain, Winkfein cursed and refused to cooperate. She says nothing of the sort occurred. “I wasn’t argumentative, I was not combative. This is a lie,” the woman told a news reporter for Fox 7.

Either way, it’s difficult to see how the issuance of a speeding ticket to an elderly woman devolved to the point where a grown, trained law-enforcement officer could be considered justified in subjecting the speeder to an electric jolt intended to disrupt her nervous system — no matter what command of profanity she displayed.

    About Me

I was born and raised in Peterborough Ontario, from there I've moved to London, Banff, Victoria and finally Qualicum Beach - I am confident I have found the best place in Canada to settle. I don't consider myself a writer, I only play one on the Internet - I started blogging years ago for my now-defunct website ThrowawayyourTV.com - Since then I've blogged for AOL and worked as a manager/trainer at Mahalo.com assisting writers in learning the ropes of Internet Research and web-writing. Away from the computer I work as a pay-on-call Firefighter here in town.
