More about the Packers’ playoff picture

GREEN BAY, WI - NOVEMBER 15: Quarterback Aaron...

Kevin Seifert thinks the Packers have “an excellent chance to clinch a wild-card spot,” and you know what? So do I, the ACL-ocaust notwithstanding. If the playoffs started tomorrow, the Eagles and the Packers would be the NFC’s two wild-card teams, both edging out the Giants, who are also 6-4, on the strength of better records within the conference.

Of course, the playoffs don’t start tomorrow. But of the three teams, Green Bay has the easiest remaining schedule — statistically, at least. Our final six opponents are a combined 27-33. Philadelphia’s are 31-29, while the Giants face the hardest road, at 35-25. We’re also the only one of the three teams that could hypothetically win out, since the Giants and the Eagles have one more head-to-head matchup to play.

Our final six opponents include three pretty good teams (the Ravens, the Steelers and the Cardinals) and three pretty bad teams (the Lions, the Bears and the Seahawks). But one of the good teams, the Cardinals, will likely have their division locked down tight by the time we face them on Jan. 3, so hopefully we’ll only get Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin for a series or two. The Giants could get a similar gift since they play the Vikings in week 17, but if Minnesota is still one game behind New Orleans, or if they’re tied by then, they’ll have to play to win in hopes of securing home field throughout the playoffs.

In any case, I believe the most likely scenario is a 4-2 finish for the Pack and a trip to the postseason. And then, dear sweet kind loving Jehovah, let us face the Vikings there.

Your quote, “We’re also the only one of the three teams that could hypothetically win out, since the Giants and the Eagles have one more head-to-head matchup to play.” is confusing to me, wouldn’t at least one of those teams, the winner of the head to head, also have a chance to win out too? Just sayin’.

I do not think the Packers will make the playoffs. The team has not played well and McCarthy’s teams do not have a good track record in December or at home. They might surprise me because of their weak schedule but if they do get in, next year will be a mess with a playoff schedule. Just my opinion and that is why they have to play the games. I will be ready to jump on the bandwagon if they keep improving as a team.
