Manny’s almost out, and the Double B is making a move

In case of poor coaching, break glass
While Eric Wedge continues to own the top spot in the Axe Rankings, he is not in the most immediate danger of being fired. That distinction belongs to Manny Acta, who could be axed very soon.
A few notes:
Bud Black and his Padres are dropping precipitously. The Double B jumped 9 spots in the past week on the heels of a five game (and counting) losing streak.
Wedge does seem to be melting down a bit. Usually even-keeled, he ripped apart his team in the media on Tuesday. While Wedge focused on the pitiful play of Jhonny Peralta, he spared no one.
Wedge was quoted in Ohio’s Morning Journal:
“The two things that are driving me crazy now,” he said, “are the walks from our pitchers and our hitters striking out with runners at third and less than two outs. We’ve got some kids up here now. They get a mulligan. But the guys who have been here for a while, they need to figure out how to put the ball in play with a runner at third and less than two outs, and they need to figure out how to throw the ball over the damn plate.”
Lou Piniella is having a tough time getting anything productive out of his Cubs.
Joe Girardi and Jerry Manuel have not looked good. The two New York managers need their teams to make the playoffs, or else.
Jim Tracy’s numbers are still overinflated. I added an extra point, because I just don’t see the Rockies winning 3/4 of their games for the rest of the season. In the unlikely event that Colorado performs even close to how they have been, the Mets and all other second place squads in the NL can kiss the Wild Card goodbye.

I will finally admit the Wedge deserves to be on the top of the chart. Recently his decissions for bullpen use have been miserable. You could do just as well by picking a name out of a hat and putting him on the mound. Maybe try not warming them up and putting the pitchers in cold, they couldn’t be any worse. And the GM’s decision to purchase Jose Veras from the Yanks???? What is that going to do, just add another failure to the pen? Luckily for me, I’ve been a Bills fan forever, so I know what to expect when the bullpen goes in and can handle it, I know it’ll take a while to turn the franchise around and return to the dominance, but it’ll happen (hopefully in my lifetime)
Can you imagine, the Yanks disliked Veras enough that they were literally willing to take just cash for him. To the Yankees, that’s like trading him for nothing.
As for Wedge, inconsistent bullpen decision-making is a sure sign of desperation.
