Sigh: Marion Barry Arrested (Again)
America’s favorite ex-Mayor (and current D.C. councilman) Marion Barry (D) was arrested in the District’s Anacostia Park night and charged with a “misdemeanor count of stalking.”
The circumstances, as reported by the Washington Post:
At about 8:45 p.m., a woman traveling near the intersection Good Hope Road and Anacostia Drive flagged down a U.S. Park Police officer to report that a man in a vehicle nearby was stalking her, said Sgt. David Schlosser, a Park Police spokesman. That man, Schlosser said, was Barry.
It’s early yet, but the story is more than likely about to become another sad chapter in the life of a man who seems determined to have his legal troubles overshadow any remnants of a political career that few can argue changed the face of my city. But in the end, no one will care.
At the world premier of a new documentary about Barry at the SILVERDOCS festival last month, I was fortunate enough to meet Barry for the first time. It was a surreal experience. My takeaway: Barry is made of a type of Teflon Craig, Vitter, Sanford and Palin can only dream about. Whatever sordid details of Barry’s alleged crime last night are about to emerge, I’d bet they don’t raise an eyebrow among his supporters.
