UPDATE: Is Warren Preparing to Run for Senate?

A few days ago, I tossed an idea up here that I thought made sense: Liz Warren should be drafted to run for Ted Kennedy’s seat. More than any other Massachusetts resident, she would continue Kennedy’s legacy of principled liberalism. Well, it seems this idea is getting some traction. Yesterday, your humble blogger was mentioned on a Fox Business Interview with Warren. You can watch the video here. Scroll to the end to see the relevant Q and A (it’s at the 7:00 minute mark). Is this thing actually going to happen?

Warren doesn’t tell her interviewer that she’s running, but there’s no Sherman statement of disavowal, either. What seems clear is that, if this is going to happen, it needs to happen soon: the special election in Massachusetts will be held on January 19th, and one of her opponents is already up on the air with television advertisements. Yet Warren’s advantages, as I’ve explained, are deep. She has national name recognition, she could tap into her multitudes of grassroots supporters in Massachusetts and around the country, and would be the most accomplished person in the race.

Plus, as you’ll see from her interview, even the Fox News host says he’d like her to run. A liberal Democrat who would make Fox News happy! That’s not something you find every day. She has, as they say, crossover appeal.

Again, I encourage you to watch the video, right here.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Elizabeth Warren for Senate!!

Finally, a pro-Middle Class politician willing to take on the banks and their lobbyists.

You can count on my support, Professor Warren.

    What I'm Up To

    • Jared Bernstein profile

I’ve written a piece for Mother Jones about Jared Bernstein, Obama’s top progressive economic advisor. Is he a token, or does his role signal something broader about the administration’s intentions? Check out the piece here.

    • Obama’s first draft

Barack Obama’s success last fall was unlikely, but did not come out nowhere–he owes a lot to the pioneering work of Cesar Chavez, farm worker organizer of the 1960’s and ’70s. Or so I argue in the latest issue of In These Times. Check it out here.
