Obama orders communist hamburger

Barack Obama revealed his true allegiances yet again today, when he visited fabled DC eatery Five Guys and ordered burgers for himself and his staff. C-SPAN’s got video here.

What’s Five Guys trademark color? Red. of course. Duh. Only a commie like Obama would eat at Five Guys.

Expect this to become a right-wing meme in five…four…three…two…

(When Obama ordered Dijon Mustard on a previous trip to a local joint, Sean Hannity mocked him. Because Dijon is “fancy mustard.” No, really. You can’t make this stuff up. Proof’s here.

  1. collapse expand

And when the kneejerk pushback happens, it will be ignorant of the fact that they’re really a fantastic example of a small business that has expanded and gone nationwide on phenomenal product.

Hannity’s got no place in decent debate & needs to be mocked for drawing I <3 Rush in crayon on the Dave & Busters menus.

  2. collapse expand

dijon mustard – if you can’t turbo charge the right wing base over social issues like gay marriage and right to life – or lots of other non-critical issues that have no impact on the security of our country or health of our planet – then get to them on the even more important subject like condiments. can’t wait to here about the national crises points coming out of their trip to broadway yesterday …..

    About Me

I live in Washington, D.C., a few blocks away from the White House--hence the title of this blog. In my day job, I'm the associate editor of Democracy: A Journal of Ideas (www.democracyjournal.org). I've written for The Nation, Politico, The New Republic, Mother Jones, and the NY Daily News, among other places. This blog will be about politics and the Red Sox.

    What I'm Up To

    • Jared Bernstein profile

I’ve written a piece for Mother Jones about Jared Bernstein, Obama’s top progressive economic advisor. Is he a token, or does his role signal something broader about the administration’s intentions? Check out the piece here.

    • Obama’s first draft

Barack Obama’s success last fall was unlikely, but did not come out nowhere–he owes a lot to the pioneering work of Cesar Chavez, farm worker organizer of the 1960’s and ’70s. Or so I argue in the latest issue of In These Times. Check it out here.
