Hitchens’ Publicist: ‘Travel Is Impossible For Personal Reasons’
Author Christopher Hitchens’ publicist has informed True/Slant that “travel is impossible right now for personal reasons,” but that Hitchens is eager to get back on the “circuit and will be doing so soon.”
Representatives at bookstores where Hitchens was slated to appear have also informed T/S that the cancellations were due to “personal matters.”
More on this as it develops.
UPDATE: Calls to the Hitchens residence in Washington have been met with a busy signal for more than hour.
UPDATE #2: Another appearance is cancelled, this one on July 8th in Houston – that’s nearly two weeks from today.
UPDATE #3: Hitchens’ home phone has now been busy for the better part of four hours, indicating it may have been disconnected or taken off the hook.

Quit pestering the guy, if he wanted to talk to people he would. Calling him all day isn’t going to change that. Hell if someone was bothering me like that, I’d tell them to lose my damned number..
I never met a boozing alcoholic who didn’t love the sonorous tones of his own voicebox. Hitchens’ liver must be in very bad shape indeed to pass up the chance to burble at crowds for cash.
I hope he pulls through whatever it is. I’d have no-one with whom to disagree vehemently if he doesn’t.

I was so looking forward to multiple appearances in the Bay Area by one of my heroes. I hope all will be well for Hitch.
FYI He has also postponed TBD (not canceled) an appearance as far off as July 15:
