Michael Moore: ‘Boycott Connecticut’

According to The Hill:

Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore on Thursday called for a boycott of the state of Connecticut in reaction to Sen. Joe Lieberman’s (I-Conn.) opposition to key provisions of healthcare reform legislation.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) recently removed the public option and Medicare-buy in proposal, which the centrist Lieberman opposes, from the bill in order to attract centrist votes. Reid needs 60 votes in order to break a Republican filibuster of the bill.

Showing just how far we’ve come, the call to boycott came via Moore’s tweet:

People of Connecticut: What have u done 2 this country? We hold u responsible. Start recall of Lieberman 2day or we’ll boycott your state.

Which is why I almost titled this post “Tedious twit tweets tiny tantrum.”

In any case, it’s liberals like Moore and Howard Dean and Kos that would scuttle this reform if they could – as though liberals could achieve something better simply by wishing it were so or by calling for boycotts of states.  Thank God we have smart people like Ezra Klein and Matt Yglesias to counter this nonsense.

Oh – and there is no legal way to recall a Senator in Connecticut for simply not supporting legislation you want passed, other than you know, voting for the other guy next time.  Truly this is a Moore Award that should go to its namesake.

Um, boycott what? It’s Connecticut…I guess we could all drive around it to get to Newport and Cape Cod next time…

    Moore’s a tool.

I like Michael Moore, only because he’s not afraid to voice, or present via big screen, his ideas.

However, this is about the dumbest thing I have seen in awhile.

Let’s boycott Connecticut. Great, that accomplishes a lot. /boggled

The problem with Moore is that he takes these extreme positions without thinking them through. It’s the Utopian trap.

Hey, if you’re looking to keep your fan base happy, say 10 million people out of the 360 million or so of us you can say these things with no justification whatsoever because this is what they want to hear…see Rush Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, maybe Bill Mahr. The point isn’t to say something constructive to the issues facing the nation it’s to find the lowest common denominator and expand on that, triggering the dopamine feed in your listeners/readers/viewers brains so they’ll continue to buy your books, listen to your radio show or watch your movies. In the end it’s really just marketing.

Roger and Me could now be remade to be Michael and Me or Rush and Me or so on…
