Dr. Arnold Klein accused of writing bogus prescriptions for a ‘friend’

Well, it just seems as though the world is crumbling around Dr. Arnie Klein, the dermatologist for the late Mr. Michael Jackson.

A quick personal story: I’ve been out here in L.A. for more than a week now reporting on the aftermath of Jackson’s passing and somehow I got one hell of a bug bite on my neck. It never got better, the red ring of infection around it kept getting bigger by the day. So today I went (on a recommendation from a friend) to a Beverly Hills dermatologist to check it out. The doctor’s office happened to be  directly across the street from Dr. Klein’s office.  A gaggle of cameras was crowded out on the sidewalk and it became clear they were there because the coroner’s office had come calling again for MORE of Klein’s medical records on Michael Jackson. Somehow past trips did not garner everything they needed. (Hmmmmmm. Now, why wouldn’t Dr. Klein just give them all the subpoenaed records to start with?)

After my appointment my doctor recommended I get her prescriptions filled at the Mickey Fine Pharmacy, right there in the lobby of Klein’s office. What a hoot! There I was standing in the very pharmacy at the center of the Klein/Jackson controversy, the store said to have been the one that filled so many scripts for the King of Pop that they finally had to sue him for 100K to get him to pay his bill.

On the drive back to my hotel THIS story about Dr. Klein broke:

Dr. Arnold Klein in a Marijuana Shirt?

Paul Gorhanson, a man who Radar Online reports is claiming to be the former live-in masseuse and former lover of Dr. Arnold Klein, is speaking out about the ways that the dermatologist allegedly helped get him medication.

Gorhanson claims that Klein, who is Michael Jackson’s former dermatologist, wrote prescriptions under his own name for three different medications used by Gorhanson.  via Report: Man Claims Dr. Arnold Klein Wrote Prescriptions Under His Own Name.

So, a doctor writes a lover a script or two, using his own name instead of the real recipient’s.  It’s hardly the type of “crime” law enforcement would pounce on, yet it is a crime.

But in this case the LAPD and the DEA, which are both known to be investigating Dr. Klein (and other doctor’s) script writing practices for Michael Jackson, it could be a compelling clue as to Klein’s past pattern of behavior.

So, let’s re-cap.  Dr. Klein is under both state and federal investigation. He’s been identified as the sperm donor for the two oldest Jackson children, a claim he didn’t exactly deny during recent network TV interviews. His practice has closed down, at least temporarily.  And now a former live-in lover says he broke federal law by giving him prescriptions that were not, legally, filled out for him.

Geez, Arnie … Mercury must be in retrograde or something!

You could sense an air of aloofness in Dr. Klein’s interviews. I don’t believe that he is a malicious man, but I do think he supports a so called “white lie” position. It seems that he doesn’t feel he contributed to the demise of M.J. It appears from the photo you’ve attached, that he may be confused as to what drugs are socially acceptable and not harmful. I don’t want to persecute the man, we should have some compassion for him as well. He is a pawn in a vicious cycle and we need to search for the good that may come out of his and the other doctor’s poor judgment. I am certain that there are other celebrities that report exaggerated conditions that need control and they are getting what they ask for, because of who they are. They are not the “next” victims, they are the present ones. In my opinion the blame has to fall with M.J. first and then the people around him that were the closest to him and then all the enablers. You should hire that bug, it has terrific investigative foresight.

you know, I once covered the trial of Baby M …. the fight between a surrogate mother and the New Jersey couple who hired her to have their baby. They were locked in an epic struggle for custody of the child. I thought then – and I think now when I contemplate the Jacko kids dilemma – that it all started with the bad judgment of ADULTS who decided to mess with mother nature to create children in an unorthodox way. In the end it is the children who are victimized, they are the ones who must live with the fall out of the grownups decisions. Sad. ~ DD

Hi Diane, In your previous post ‘The Enigma That Was Michael Jackson’ you stated: “And from my years of reporting on the case I can tell you there were other young boys with eerily similar stories of abuse by Jackson, sons of parents too reticent, too embarrassed or scared to press charges.” Since he died, I have been reading every article I can find about the molestation trials, trying to come to my own conclusions about whether Jackson was a pedophile. A textbook pedophile would have molested many (hundreds) of children, and wouldn’t let two brushes with the law stop him. I have two questions: one, how many boys are there with similar stories? And two, do you think he had ‘inappropriate relationships’ with boys up to his death?
    Thanks,
    Heather

    About Me

I’m a been-there-done-that reporter who has worked in all the media’s mediums: Radio, T.V., I wrote a book about what I learned covering the Michael Jackson child sex abuse saga and I’m currently writing a nationally syndicated newspaper column.

I have a freakish attachment to all things having to do with crime and justice, although I’ve covered all sorts of stories, including national politics in Washington – which I guess some might say is akin to covering crime. You'll see here I often mix the two.

Its human behavior that fascinates me most – why do we do the things we do to each other?

You’ve seen or heard my work on NPR, WCBS-TV, NBC, FOX, Court TV and on syndicated televisions programs like Hard Copy. See my full bio here: http://dianedimond.net/about/
