Quitters never win, Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin speaking in Carson City croped but...

With the decision to step down from position as the Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has, without a doubt, ended further political ambition. Though some news organizations are floating the idea that Palin may be positioning herself for a run for president in 2012, departing before the end of her first term means that she’s giving up on politics altogether. You don’t abandon a post mid-stream to wait around for a campaign that is still a good two years from starting in earnest.

Is there a scandal brewing? Was the past week, what with the Vanity Fair article, and the released e-mails from the campaign, just the final straw? Either way, she has proven that she doesn’t have the temperament for a chief executive.

Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowsi hits the nail on the head as to why this move precludes a real shot at winning further political office:

“I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded.”

What a week for the GOP. First Ensign, then Sanford, now Palin. Mitt Romney is seeing a clear path opening up before him.

Here’s her crazy statement that will be mocked for generations to come.

Why did Launren Caitlin Upton jump into my mind while listening to this? You all remember Upton, Miss Teen of South Carolina who rambled on about why one fifth of teenagers couldn’t find America on a map. “…uh…some people out there in our nation don’t have maps…that our education like such as in South Africa…” The ladywasn’t ready for the question and Palin seems as struck as that poor girl. “Pass the ball for freedom, no politics as usual, wasted money by being governor?” Wow. This woman is whacked.

There is another big shoe that is going to drop, something is going on here. Palin is not a woman who walks away from anything, something or someone is pushing off her off this cliff.

crazy, crazy lady. How her and all the other republican politicos can ignore what a sizable majority want and need from THEIR politicians (after all these years of going the wrong direction) is more than I can wrap my mind around. I consistently hear them say what the people want at the same time they’re ignoring what the people want.

    About Me

I've published two novels: The Secrets of the Camera Obscura (Chronicle Books), and The Third Eye (Nan A. Talese/Doubleday). I'm currently working as a journalist for AOL's Sphere. For the past three years I also spouted political opinion for AOL's Political Machine, which I also helped edit. My non-fiction has appeared in places like Men's Vogue, The Wall Street Journal Magazine, USA Today, Newsday, Travel + Leisure, GQ (Spain), and Vanity Fair (Italy). I've dabbled with short stories, publishing in Nerve and a few small journals.

The other half of my split personality finds me playing a variety of instruments for a variety of bands, and writing songs for film soundtracks.
