Women crushing men in college degree stats
Talk about a paradigm shift. Check out the following graph that tracks the number of college degrees conferred according to gender:
Women are far out-pacing men in every category of degree: Associate, bachelor’s, graduate, master’s, professional, and doctoral. Where’s this heading?
For all levels of higher education, women have earned more college degrees than men in every year since the Class of 1982, and the degree gap has widened in every year since then, and is expected to widen in the future through the 2016-2017 year.
Take heart, men of the future, there will always be toilets to scrub. Hey, you missed a spot!

I would think with the economy, there will be less degrees in future years period. Also, it could change the expected trajectory of the graph that runs through 2017. Men could start enrolling more as their traditional manufacturing jobs etc. disappear.
So, more women are holding more of the college debt. As graduations were going on this year, the MSM pointed out that those graduates future as far as employment, was rather bleak. I’m not sure it’s good for women or a bad thing for women. Having it all may be harder than ever for women. Although nothing is impossible.
I took Pre-Pharmacy and dropped out winding up a bartender. I couldn’t stand being in school one more minute. I am not a college graduate, but I made an incredible living for many years and had the time of my life for much of that experience. But, unless you want to work for…say a hotel or something (not sexy or fun), there is no 401K plan and usually health insurance isn’t even available. In other words, I traded immediate gratification during my twenties and thirties for a rather limited future. I had my reasons and I don’t regret it at all. My twin brother finally has paid off his college loans. I didn’t have any debt of any kind after 21-years-old…still don’t.
I look at where things are now, and…well, I can’t imagine being a pharmacist. Perhaps if I had taken time off from school before I entered college, things would have been different. Because of my health problems, I can only earn a very limited amount of money. That means I will be cheap to hire and whatever I go back to will be something I really want to do as money can’t be the incentive.
The pressure and stress of being a recent graduate would not be worth it to me. I feel like Kevin Spacey in “American Beauty” where he wound up working in a fast food restaurant as that is where he was the happiest in his life. I won’t go back to work unless it is something I will thoroughly enjoy. I’ve learned to live on next to nothing and have a savings. I own exactly what I need and I never have been materialistic despite how I was raised. The greatest luxury of all is that, other than the new kitten Valerie, I am able to live alone in San Francisco. I guess I have much to be grateful for. Rent Control helps!

That’s funny! Maybe that’s why I lived and many of my contemporaries didn’t? I certainly enjoyed the occupational hazards of being a bartender.

Interesting theory. What do adolescent girls do all day? Maybe texting is good preparation for college.
