Obama no longer a secret Muslim

ABC 1946 logo

Have you heard? The secret is out. The Trojan army has just busted out of the horse. The veil has been lifted (or has it been lowered?). Yes, be afraid, Barack Obama is no longer dyeing his Muslim roots. So says ABC’s Jake Tapper, anyway:

Since the election, however, with the threat of the [Obama is a Muslim] rumors at least somewhat abated, the White House has been increasingly forthcoming about the president’s roots. Especially when reaching out to the Muslim world.

Dear God, maybe the conspiracy theorists were right! Maybe the guy was a secret Muslim all along. Why else would he fly back to Saudi Arabia today? We’re doomed. Read my full take at Politics Daily.

The “he’s not a native born American” crowd seems to be fading into the background too. Maybe their meds finally have kicked in!

    B,

No, no, they’re still out there. Just have a look at the AOL comment section.

I just read the comments on the AOL post, amazing! The one that managed to work in ACORN was my favorite!

I will never ever understand this … this … what IS it? paranoia xenophobia racial prejudice ?? Do they really believe themselves? Are they just raving and ranting for the sheer joy of it? Do they all wear aluminum foil hats? (My own paranoia: ) Is this some sort of harbinger of our own Kristallnacht? Calling for MENTAL healthcare reform …. (geesh)

It just seems to me as though Obama really pushed his “I’m a Christian” campaign during the election, but he has since drifted away from that. The issue of him being a Muslim wouldn’t be that much of an issue if he were more forthcoming. Of course, it could just be that he is claiming “Muslim roots” much the way someone would claim “Catholic roots” just because their father’s father was a Catholic.

But what seems to upset the people I speak with (Democrats and Republicans alike) is that he was pretty dodgy of the subject before he was elected. You’d think that if it was that important to him, he would have been more vocal about it. Of course, that’s where convictions end and politics begin.

    David,

I thought it was silly during the campaign and I find it silly now. I don’t care what religion anyone practices. It is supposed to be personal. If a friend talks about religion I will listen and participate in the conversation unless the point is to convert me. Thanks, I’ll find my own way. Didn’t Jake Tapper replace the unvarnished entertaining Martha Raddatz as Chief White House Correspondent for ABC World News with Charles Gibson?

The piece was beneath him. Maybe President Obama is playing politics a little with any ties with the Muslim community, but that’s what politicians do as you noted. This particular debate is about when I lost interest in The Political Machine. I was labeled recently on here as a PUMA and told to move on as I mentioned Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. I wanted her on the Supreme Court. I remember first mentioning that after Obama picked Biden as his running mate. I realized it was the person that made the remark about me was the one that needed to move on as I harbor no ill will from the campaign and I seem to have struck a nerve. It was an accident that I saw his comment as I still don’t read them unless circumstances call for it.

I look forward to Sunday as Hillary is the guest on ABC’s This Week. I voted for President Obama and I don’t regret it. I wish the problems he inherited were easily solvable, but they aren’t. Patience it the key.

    Sandy

    About Me

I've published two novels: The Secrets of the Camera Obscura (Chronicle Books), and The Third Eye (Nan A. Talese/Doubleday). I'm currently working as a journalist for AOL's Sphere. For the past three years I also spouted political opinion for AOL's Political Machine, which I also helped edit. My non-fiction has appeared in places like Men's Vogue, The Wall Street Journal Magazine, USA Today, Newsday, Travel + Leisure, GQ (Spain), and Vanity Fair (Italy). I've dabbled with short stories, publishing in Nerve and a few small journals.

The other half of my split personality finds me playing a variety of instruments for a variety of bands, and writing songs for film soundtracks.
