Recession Special: Sammy Davis Jr.’s Menorah on Auction Block

Sammy's menorah
I just received a press-release from a guy at a PR firm who is touting one of the often-neglected benefits of our current recession: Everything is for sale! True enough. Jonathan Greenstein of J. Greenstein & Co. expands on this silver lining logic:
“For collectors, there are positive ramifications of the recession and Madoff [swindler, Bernie].”
So what’s on the block at Greenstein’s latest gavel-drop on June 8 at Manhattan’s Radisson Martinique Hotel? How about the “Candyman’s” old menorah? No joke. The New Yorker will back me up on this.
So, everybody, please stop whining about the economy. Without this downturn, we might not have the chance to own Sammy Davis Jr.’s Judaica.

Wow, I didn’t realize he was Jewish! Someone needs to save this priceless piece of Americana.
Phillip,
Converted. Here’s some essential reading:

This would make a very nice gift for the True/Slant office. Y’know, in case anyone was thinking about getting the True/Slant office a gift.
I cannot believe it. Sammy Davis, Jr. and I have the SAME menorah! The same menorah I repeat. The arms swivel. Who but Sammy and, may I add, me, would know this? What is the message here? And is there a song that goes with it?
Phillip, seriously, you didn’t realize the brother was kosher?
I actually didn’t, and this seems like the type of random information I would know, too. Of course, I don’t know a great deal about Sammy Davis Jr.

In response to another comment. See in context »I’m 25, but I have a penchant for older music. I knew he was part of the Rat Pack, but my guy was always Old Blue Eyes.
