Rapper Joaquin Phoenix Attacks Heckling Fan

Shape-shifter Joaquin Phoenix is either losing his mind, or he’s in the midst of one of the greatest comedic hoaxes of all time. After declaring that he was giving up acting to pursue a rapping career, then treating the internet to a confusing and highly entertaining David Letterman booking, Phoenix took to the stage in Miami for a concert last night. Here are the results.

Barring some sort of brain tumor, I’d say these are the antics of a guy who is one hell of a good actor.

  1. collapse expand

Everyone says the same thing. Either JP has lost his mind, or he is doing some kind of comedy or social experiment.

#1. I have my doubts that JP lost his mind and immediately decided to commit career suicide to become a rapper. I dunno. Maybe it’s just me. If he did lose his mind… Here’s to a speedy rehab, bro. Can I borrow 100 grand?

#2. If this is some kind of experiment to prove that people will buy in to anything that is given to them… well… sorry. I’m not buying it. If that’s the case, it seems pretty pompous to me. “Look at me… i’m a famous actor from Hollywood… I can act like a total dick and everybody will still like me.”

#3. If this is comedy… I don’t get it. Not one bit.

I hope there is something i’m not getting. I used to have respect for Jaoquin until he started acting like a total jackass. Who knows… maybe i’m being played right now. Played by Jaoquin Phoenix’s genius mind. Dreamy.

    About Me

I've published two novels: The Secrets of the Camera Obscura (Chronicle Books), and The Third Eye (Nan A. Talese/Doubleday). I'm currently working as a journalist for AOL's Sphere. For the past three years I also spouted political opinion for AOL's Political Machine, which I also helped edit. My non-fiction has appeared in places like Men's Vogue, The Wall Street Journal Magazine, USA Today, Newsday, Travel + Leisure, GQ (Spain), and Vanity Fair (Italy). I've dabbled with short stories, publishing in Nerve and a few small journals.

The other half of my split personality finds me playing a variety of instruments for a variety of bands, and writing songs for film soundtracks.
