Pink foam takes over in Chinatown, NYC, TONIGHT!
Tonight! TURNING PINK W/ LEONG LEONG
From May 24th to June 6th the W/_____ Gallery will exhibit work by Leong-Leong Architects. The opening reception is tonight Thursday, 5/27 from 7:30-9:30 pm.
The Leong-Leong architects have turned the small gallery space into a water cooler using pink foam. Magic, you ask?
It’s art I answer! When viewed from the street the installation looks like a glowing, pink, enigmatic box. But once inside the box, you’ll be surrounded by a warm glow around a grotto of cool beer and hot dumplings. Nom nom. Now, that’s what I call “thinking inside the box.”
The artists used a hard-foam insulation to create an experience that embraces the tight confines of the gallery space while utilizing the thermal properties of the foam thus creating a “cooling” room. Additionally, Okamoto Studio has donated an ice sculpture for the opening party. So if you are in a playful mood tonight (and you like free dumplings and free beer), swing by to take a look at a theoretically intelligent collaboration.

Leong-Leong is an architecture firm based in New York City whose work includes building the highly publicized Phillip Lim stores in Asia, also renovating those in NYC and LA, and collaborating with Ace Hotel for the Opening Ceremony/Ace Hotel pop up store.
