"It is a rather uncontroversial reading of history to say that Ronald Reagan, given his druthers, would’ve cut domestic spending more than he did, while Congressional Democrats were the staunches opponents of his government shrinking agenda."

This is quite enlightening could you cite some examples of Reagan's plans in cutting domestic spending? I keep hearing about small government but never read the what the details might be.

I do know Reagan lowered the upper tax rate from 70% to 28% thus decreasing federal revenue, he raised taxes on Medicare and Social Security, defense spending, never balanced a budget, began the practice of borrowing from Social Security fund, deregulated industry and banks, increased the trade deficient and offered tax breaks for industry to move off shore, supported the bank policies that led to the Savings and Loan collapse, he waged a war against unions and began controlling the money flow in the country with more power given to the fed. During his eight years the country became a debtor nation. In the end the country found itself with a bigger government and bigger debt but if its the democrats that really caused it and that's what matters.

Reagan economics have been followed and taught in all the business schools and his anti-regulation, lower taxes small government solution has been the mantra of the party and still followed to this very day. This has made big business predatory corporations the rulers of the universe.

But its all good because big business and big government go hand in hand and we are the greatest nation in the world. We just cannot provide the same level of health care as the rest of the western industrial world and we have been burdened with giving up 90% of our GDP to debt and we have no jobs for our citizens but we can still kick anyone's ass with our muscle bound military and can still keep Asia in clover with our spending.

And we can't seem to build a decent car or put shoes on our feet or cloth ourselves or even make a toaster or television or computer.

Plus our government is strong enough to protect our real economy, banks and wall street, that's what a small government is for and if we had cut out more programs, not given money to free loaders and welfare queens and the gay decease we would have had more to protect the engine of our prosperity.

But fuck all that boring stuff lets argue about the glory of Republicans vs. Democrats and who is really the team that can save us with health care or small government and ignore an industrial policy because we have bigger fish to fry like those bad guys we can't find anywhere despite our million dollar soldiers and trillion dollar fighter planes.

So lets cut spending, there is plenty to go to get to small government since the government accounts for 28% of the GDP and I'm sure small and big businesses can pick up the slack.

All any real American needs is guns and god and a big screen TV.

However some day we have to stop the horseshit bickering, the childish name calling, stop pointing fingers and clogging our democracy because we can and face the hard truths that this country is on a disastrous course, that we are bankrupt and delusional and get on with repairing and rebuilding or we will have a real, soup line depression to deal with.
