The partisan types seem to apply the exact opposite standard to turn coats. To me, it’s most apparent with attitudes taken to the condemnation of Islam. Conservatives gain immense respect for even the most liberal people who are willing to invest equal venom in denouncing Islam. At the same time, they severely curtail the roles of dissident opinions of expressed conservatives, especially if those voices concern people like Sarah Palin and the Christian right in general.
