Fox News Admits ‘Breakdown’ on Sherrod Story

This is classic. The wingnut blogs are still ranting that Fox never aired a story about the Sherrod case until she had already resigned, pretending not to be aware that Fox did run stories on their websites, FoxNews.com and TheFoxNation.com.

Today Fox suit Michael Clemente admitted there was ‘a breakdown’.

The first mention of the Sherrod video, which surfaced on Monday, July19th on Andrew Breitbart’s BigGovernment.com, was made later that day on Bill O’Reilly’s 8 p.m. show. O’Reilly later apologized for how he characterized Sherrod.

But FoxNews.com did run a story about the existence of the video, titled “Video Shows USDA Official Saying She Didn’t Give ‘Full Force’ of Help to White Farmer” at 5:58 p.m. on Monday, an hour before the Agriculture Department announced Sherrod’s resignation. And Wednesday, Clemente told POLITICO that was a mistake.

“There was a breakdown in the system, and it is being addressed,” he said. “But it must say something about the power of Fox, that a week after she resigned, we’re still talking about this.”

Lindsey Graham: Illegals Come Here to ‘Drop a Child’

If you thought the recent right wing push to repeal part of the US Constitution’s 14th amendment and take away automatic birthright citizenship was just a wacky idea from the Rand Paul fringe, think again. Lindsey Graham eyes ‘birthright citizenship’.

And in his statement on Fox News (where else?), Graham resorted to some of the crudest dehumanizing language I’ve seen from any politician.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) announced Wednesday night that he is considering introducing a constitutional amendment that would change existing law to no longer grant citizenship to the children of immigrants born in the United States. …

“People come here to have babies,” he said. “They come here to drop a child. It’s called “drop and leave.” To have a child in America, they cross the border, they go to the emergency room, have a child, and that child’s automatically an American citizen. That shouldn’t be the case. That attracts people here for all the wrong reasons.”

NOAA Study: All Indicators Show Climate Change is Undeniable

A new study from the US National Oceans and Atmospheric Administration shows that climate change is ‘undeniable’ — but does anyone really believe that will silence the deniers?

The NOAA study drew on up to 11 different indicators of climate, and found that each one pointed to a world that was warming owing to the influence of greenhouse gases, said Peter Stott, head of climate monitoring at the UK’s Met Office, one of the agencies participating.

Seven indicators were rising, he said. These were: air temperature over land, sea-surface temperature, marine air temperature, sea level, ocean heat, humidity, and tropospheric temperature in the “active-weather” layer of the atmosphere closest to the earth’s surface. Four indicators were declining: Arctic sea ice, glaciers, spring snow cover in the northern hemisphere, and stratospheric temperatures.

Mr Stott said: “The whole of the climate system is acting in a way consistent with the effects of greenhouse gases.” “The fingerprints are clear,” he said. “The glaringly obvious explanation for this is warming from greenhouse gases.”

This is really bad news; not a single indicator contradicts the conclusion that we’re approaching a catastrophic tipping point. And it gets even worse.

Another newly released study has shown that phytoplankton, the basis of the ocean’s entire food chain, has declined over the past century by 40 percent.

The microscopic plants that support all life in the oceans are dying off at a dramatic rate, according to a study that has documented for the first time a disturbing and unprecedented change at the base of the marine food web.

Scientists have discovered that the phytoplankton of the oceans has declined by about 40 per cent over the past century, with much of the loss occurring since the 1950s. They believe the change is linked with rising sea temperatures and global warming.

Sherrod Will Sue Breitbart

At the annual convention of the National Association of Black Journalists, Shirley Sherrod said she is going to sue Andrew Breitbart.

Breitbart, meanwhile, is continuing the smear campaign, and today at his “Big Government” site, Greg Gutfeld actually whines that somebody needs to apologize to the Tea Party movement. It’s the Double Reverse Wingnut Victimization Backflip maneuver, clumsily executed.

Gingrich: Park51 Community Center is ‘Hostile to Our Civilization’

Oh, brother.

According to Newt Gingrich, we should refuse to let Muslims build mosques in America until they let us build “our” churches in Mecca. Sounds like a good solid Republican position — make the US more like Saudi Arabia! Yeah!
