Shocka! Glenn Beck Says Geert Wilders is ‘Far Right’, and the Far Right is ‘Fascist’
The wingnut blogosphere is in full shrieking harpy mode over Glenn Beck’s statement about anti-Muslim Dutch MP Geert Wilders (who wants to ban the Koran and make Islam itself illegal).
This is one of those Bizarro days, because I actually find myself agreeing with Glenn Beck. Geert Wilders is a far right ideologue, and the European far right does often equal fascism. How the heck did Beck ever get this one right?
Of course, he also confuses Dominique de Villepin (a leftist) with Jean-Marie Le Pen (a far right Holocaust denier), so it could have been a shot in the dark.

I don’t think simply piling the “far right” of today’s France or Netherlands together with the “far right” of the 1920s and ’30s is useful.
The composition, circumstances, and means of these leaders and movements are almost entirely different.

I have to disagree with you here.
Geert Wilders is not a far right politician. Although he has been painted that way by many who have little/no understanding of the Dutch mindset and politics.
For more then 400 hundred years, long before the US was called a “melting pot”, the Dutch have welcomed the political and religious refugees of the world.
It didn’t mater to the Dutch what your political affiliations or religious beliefs were so long as you did not interfere with their progressive and tolerant society once you got there.
They have successfully integrated people of all stripes, colours, creeds, religious and politics affiliations and in the process created the world’s first truly multicultural society.
And it worked.
Until very recently. Now that culture of tolerance and acceptance is under threat.
From Islam.
And the Dutch have had enough.
Geert Wilders has are real possibility of forming the next government in the Netherlands.
Is this because the citizens of the the world’s most tolerant society have suddenly gone nuts and turned into a bunch or right wing racists?
No. They will vote for Geert because he has the courage to stand up for and defend their secular, tolerant society.
The Dutch are wise enough to know that Geert is fighting the religious intolerance that currently threatens to overwhelm this most tolerant of nations.
Besides, if Glenn Beck hates him, how bad can he be?
